This is a brief history of Collinsville Primary Eyecare. Collinsville Primary Eyecare has been serving the Collinsville eye care need for over 5 decades. This will cover some of the highlights of the business over that time.
Collinsville Primary Eyecare was originally started in 1969 by Dr. Phil Cook. It was located on Main Street in Collinsville.

After one year of practice in a three doctor office in Purcell, Oklahoma, Dr. Len Hart decided to seek solo practice and purchased the practice of Dr. Phillip Cook in Collinsville in 1982.  He has practiced in the same location since that time.  Then, the office building underwent a complete remodel and expansion in 1995.

Dr. Hart’s Contribution to the Collinsville Community

Since practicing in Collinsville, Dr. Hart has been Chamber of Commerce President, President of the Collinsville Chamber Charitable Authority, a member of the Baptist Retirement Center Board of Advisors, a member of the advisory committee of the Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative and was named to the 1986 list of Outstanding Young Men of America.  He is also one of the original founders of the Collinsville Sportsplex.

Another organization that Dr. Hart has been active in is the state and national optometric organizations serving on the board of directors of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians and served as state association president in 1998-99.  He is past president of the Southwest Council of Optometry, a regional council serving six southwest states and was named Oklahoma Optometrist of the Year in 2008.  In 2011 Dr. Hart passed the certification examination to become one of the first 270 optometrists in the nation to become Board Certified and a Diplomate in the American Board of Optometry.

Also, Dr. Hart and his wife, Pam, have two children, Ryan and Valerie.

Formation of Primary Eyecare Network

Next, in 1989 Dr. Hart and seven other optometric practices in and around the Tulsa area joined forces to form the Family Contact Lens Centers and Optique Eyewear Centers to try to promote quality and professional optometry to consumers.  The doctors felt that the current advertisements to the public were very misleading and not in the best interests of the public.  In 1993 the name was changed to Primary Eyecare Associates. The group when by several different names from time to time. The majority of the time they were referred to as Primary Eyecare Network. With changing times, Primary Eye Care Network was dissolved in 2015 and are now affiliated with the marketing/buying group known as PECAA.

Dr. Hart Phases Out

Then, in 2018 Dr. Hart decided to start down the path towards retirement. He began looking to find a successor to Dr. Hart’s Primary Eyecare. After several years of searching he found Dr. James Thirion. Dr. Thirion had a thriving practice in Broken Arrow and was from the Owasso and Collinsville area. Dr. Hart talked with several of the professors from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. After hearing positive reports from those professors Dr. Hart decided to transfer ownership of Dr. Hart’s Primary Eyecare to Dr. Thirion.

During July of 2020 the transfer took place with a rebranding of the clinic to Collinsville Primary Eyecare. Dr. Hart is still working in the Collinsville eye clinic Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for the rest of 2020. This is when Dr. Thirion decided to start to write about the history of Collinsville Primary Eyecare since it has been in the Collinsville community for over 3 decades.
